Greetings from Mary and Joanne, Creators of Fictional Faces

Joanne and I have been fortunate enough to spend decades working with and educating children. We have both experienced the effectiveness of combining literature with art. Two of the favorite past times of children are story time and painting. We believe that children come into the world with a preexisting desire to learn and create. My job as an educator is to foster, strengthen and explore those desires with them. We developed a way of expanding on the popular story hour concept that takes reading and learning to new heights!

Invite Fictional Faces to your school, library, day care, or any other special event and watch us bring your favorite children's books to life. Story time face painting involves reading familiar as well as new books, face painting and an open ended art activity. Reading to young children is an art in itself. I will capture the attention of my audience while reading stories and exploring themes through .interactive story telling. Joanne will reinforce the characters and images through face painting. She will literally bring the pictures and images to life on the faces of the children. Lastly, the art activity will allow the children a canvas to create their own impressions.

The acclaimed author, Eric Carle is respected for his stories and beloved for his ability to create colorful images that are depicted on the pages of his wonderful books. What makes Eric Carle’s books so popular and memorable is his ability to capture the essence of his stories through those colorful images. We have devised a three pronged approach using reading, painting and developmentally appropriate arts and crafts. The purpose of this approach is to reinforce vocabulary, reading comprehension, creativity and an appreciation for the arts – ALL while having fun! The children will be involved in all stages of the learning process.
